STUDENTS EARN NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Middle School Students Place Fourth in American Horsepower Challenge Benson Middle School Students, led by PE teachers Penny Ahrens and Chris Riehemann, walked, ran, skipped and jumped over four million steps as part of a nationwide effort to prevent childhood obesity. The American Horsepower Challenge is sponsored by the Humana Foundation to show young people that "living a healthy, active lifestyle is fun and rewarding." Nationwide, the students walked more than 75 million steps, measured by interactive pedometers, and inspired other students and adults that making small changes is easy and effective. Their efforts also earned the middle school $5000. Way to go, kids! |
![]() MABRY SCORES AT WRESTLING TOURNAMENT During the last week in March, Mark Mabry finished in third place at the USA Wrestling Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is Benson's first All-American in Benson's 50 year history of wrestling. The two young men on the podium above him have been four-time and three-time national champions. Mabry wrestled in the 171 lb weight class, sticking to a grueling workout schedule in preparation for the tourney. Coach Woodall praised Mabry's drive and dedication to the sport. He will continue his wrestling career at the collegiate level, and is trying to decide between a Division I or Division II school. Benson can take pride in Mabry's representation of Benson! |
